Since the business water market in England deregulated, every commercial customer has been able to choose their water retailer. Despite that, a large proportion of businesses remain with the retailer they were automatically assigned, on default terms they have never reviewed.
JSR Energy Consultancy treats water with the same discipline as energy. We audit what you are being charged, correct what is wrong and compare the market for a better retail contract and service standard.
What you are actually paying for
A commercial water bill covers water supplied, wastewater returned to the sewer, surface water drainage and highway drainage, plus a retail service charge. The wholesale element is set by your regional wholesaler and is the same regardless of retailer. What competition changes is the retail margin, the billing quality and the service you receive.
That makes accuracy the biggest lever. Sites are regularly charged surface water drainage for areas that do not drain to the public sewer, or assessed charges on unmetered premises that exceed actual usage. Both are recoverable.
Auditing and recovering overcharges
Our audit reviews historic billing, meter records, site drainage arrangements and any trade effluent consents. Where charges have been applied incorrectly we submit a claim to the retailer or wholesaler and manage it through to credit, including backdated periods where the rules allow.
Undetected leaks are another common source of loss. A continuous flow on an internal supply can run for months unnoticed. Where a leak is confirmed we assist with leak allowance applications alongside the repair.
Choosing a water retailer
Comparison in the water market is less about headline price and more about the combination of retail margin, billing frequency, portal quality and account handling. For multi site organisations, consolidated billing across every site in one statement is often worth more in administrative time than the margin saving itself.
We tender your portfolio across licensed retailers, present the commercial and service differences plainly and manage the transfer once a decision is made.
Water efficiency
Reducing consumption reduces both supply and wastewater charges, so the saving compounds. Practical measures include urinal controls, flow restrictors, monitoring on high use processes and simple sub metering to identify which part of a site is responsible for consumption.
Water services in Leeds and Yorkshire
Yorkshire businesses sit within a single wholesale region but can contract with any licensed retailer operating in England. We handle the transfer process, the meter registration checks and the closing bill reconciliation so that switching does not create a billing gap.
